Tour of duty plan

  • The Indian Army is looking to engage the youth for a three-year "Tour of Duty (ToD) tenure as officers and jawans."

  • According to the army, a tour of duty officer will earn Rs 80,000-90,000 per month. After the tenure of tour of duty, youth can find attractive private and public sector jobs.
  • If an officer or soldier becomes a casualty in battle, all the benefits can be given to them or their families.

Currently, the army recruits young people for 10 years which can be extended to 14 years. Under the new proposal, those admitted under TOD for 3 years would be eligible to be deployed as combatants in key forward locations and there would be no restriction in their roles.

The TOD expects a drastic reduction in spending on salaries and pensions and free funding for the modernization of the military.
